Audio; Day 120 morning; @dreamsnhonor No time to say hello, goodbye [CW: dead people]
{Day 119; Morning}
[ Darkness.
Darkness had been the first thing he'd found when he had woken up. Not the kind of comforting darkness where he's sandwiched or doing the sandwiching to Kuns and the others. But a kind of lonely darkness with the cold already creeping up and chilling you to the bone. Never mind the weight of those dreams from the night before. Never mind the way his heart's still beating hard in his chest. Because the darkness tells him well enough that he's alone... and it doesn't take much to figure out why. Not when he tries to get the blanket off of his head-
only to realize that's not a blanket at all. Hands quickly run down the fabric, pushing and feeling it go taunt- and with it, he feels the push of something against his boots. Feels something move underneath his body.
That's not a blanket. That's a-
His body jolts suddenly, heartbeat kicking up a few notches as the memories flicker in his head in a rapid blur. There's nothing to see but everything to hear. The thunder of something behind him, almost deafening, the shattering crash of glass, and then the grip of pain. Panic and intense pain he hasn't felt since that fateful day. It's all he can remember... not that there isn't enough significant evidence to tell him the rest of that story.
Not when he's slowly moving hands, skating fingers along the texture of the zipper to find its pull and start to tug away. Sooner than he'd like, but this is a story he needs to face head on and move forward from because he's got some important calls to make. Calls that grip him but also give him relief in knowing that at least he's there to make them. He pulls his tablet from his pocket where it usually is and taps at it only to freeze a second later when he thinks he catches something out of his eye. Curiosity gets the better of him and he turns his tablet to glance light off the drawers on either side of him.
He instantly regrets it, stomach churning and heart aching all over again. Zack peels that light away, taking a steadying breath and running a hand through far too clean hair. He curses again to himself, but then he's swinging feet out to the side, so he can face away from the sightless eyes of old friends.
Face away and start flicking through his tablet... ]
{Day 120; Morning}
[ It's not until the next day when he finally gets his wits together, finally composes himself enough to reach out to the rest. Knowing Kunsel had died... thinking he would never come back... the only thing that had kept him moving then was knowing that Jim and Zell were out there. They were out there and likely doing something dangerous without him and while he had no control over it, that didn't make him want to find them again any less. He'd said he would help get them all a ticket out of there. He just hadn't planned on dying at some point to make it a reality. Well, not that that was...
All the same, at some point, he does realize he ought to say something... at least if only to reassert the fact that he's there yet, especially when that obituary comes up later.
So, he takes to doing so... as casually as he can muster considering circumstances. What's the most important thing to take from this and share? That's at least easy to figure out. ]
So, fair warning if you ever de-decide to go unlocking any doors around here. The traps around here are... pr-pretty brutal.
[ He pauses for just a brief moment before adding quietly... ruefully. ]
It looks like th-this place just couldn't get enough of me though.

It's okay. I understand, really...
Just don't... don't be so hard on yourself right now, if you can. I know that's far easier said than done with that kind of responsibility, but...
[Her words trail off, her voice weighed with an anxiety and awareness that she's not exactly helping the situation. Maybe she'd stepped a little too far here - they were still strangers, after all.]
Anyway. I'll, um. I'll let you go, okay? I'm really glad that you're alright, Zack. Please, stay safe.

It's just a matter of remembering that. And he's... still working on that. Zack slowly exhales from this end, letting silence linger a moment before adding: ] Th-Thanks, Luna. For checking in on me. I mean it.
[ He cuts it off at that though. He's still got a ways to go yet. He can't be delaying his outside trek any longer. ]
