[It's just before lockdown ends in the morning that John sends out his message. He knows it's going to invite criticism, ire, possibly screaming at him some more. But people deserve to know what's happening.]

Good morning, everyone. I don't know where everyone is, but I wanted to say thank you for those who've been helping to put up messages around town for the anomalies. We'll be reaching the power plant this morning. We have a good team with us and we've made some preliminary plans about how to trap specific anomalies, as needed, and how to talk to the ones who might be willing to help us. We're keeping things flexible in the event some are there that we haven't planned for or what have you.

I know some of you don't approve of this. I know some of you think I'm a monster for helping to organize this. That's all right. I'm taking responsibility for what happens today. The people who are helping haven't been forced, but I am directing them. Any failure, any lives lost, injuries sustained, those are on me. We'll provide an update at the end of the day when it's done.

Godspeed to everyone in the Bunker. We're counting on you. To everyone else scattered to the winds, hold fast. We'll make it through this. Keep safe and keep warm.

[Well, here they are. Flynn is considering a private call for a moment but it feels way too much like a cop-out. They are still choices that have to be made and he figures John could use the support, all things considering.]

I'm on my way, too. I should make it on time, I guess I'll see you and the others there.

[There is a pause and then he does switch to private after all for a little addendum.]

Things are pretty heated. You holding up okay?

I'm all right, Flynn. Thanks.

[John puts on his best confident smile for the other man. He needs to be Captain Watson right now, not very tired and emotionally wrung out Dr. Watson.]

We'll look forward to seeing you. I've got a strategy we'll talk once we're all gathered to make sure we stay safe and assign rolls. You're feeling ready for this?

Sounds good.

[Oh hey, that's a smile. Feels good to see that, so Flynn tries to give him one in return.]

Strangely enough... yes. It's weird, but battling monsters while facing impossible odds is a lot more familiar to me than trekking post-apocalyptic wastelands or making sense of this place.

Tell me about it. [John huffs a sigh.] I mean, not monsters. But we get the human sort where I'm from. Much easier to deal with than all the rest of this.

[Then again, Flynn's seen what's in John's nightmares. So. In any case.]

I think all of us are going to feel a little more ourselves when this is all said and done, yeah?

I know what you mean. Feels more concrete than having your mind or your memories messed with, too.

[Like for example when you go into other people's nightmares and... yeah.]

... And not gonna lie, it just feels really good to plan something instead of just reacting to whatever the town is throwing at us.

I guess so. I'll definitely sleep better when I know Mycroft's anomaly isn't roaming the streets anymore. And that my own stops wildly murdering people left and right.

[Being proactive certainly has something to do with John liking this action. He hates that Gabriel wasn't entirely wrong when he'd pointed out that John needs something to be doing. He's spent so much time here just having things done to him. This is something he needs. It's something he suspects several of the people coming here need. This has to be a 'win' for them.]

I wouldn't mind having my own out of the way. Castiel didn't seem to think he knew what he was doing, but that really just makes it worse. You can't reason with someone if they don't recognize the danger.

What is yours like?

[There's a pause and then he pulls a bit of a face.]

Maybe we can find a better way of referring to them. I don't like thinking of them as 'ours'. Or that they're anything like us.

Burning. Or melting. He said it had giant hands and it was looking to just be near people. Probably lonely.

[Which is. Awkward.]

Oh.

[Yeah, that's... yeah.

Would be a shame if someone made it more awkward.]

Do you think the way they're behaving, uh.

Do you think it's reflecting on us in any way? Like...

I don't know. Saying something about us?

No!

Um... no. Miller did something... weird to them. That's all.

I'll be there, too--and so should the anomaly that looks like me.

[ She pauses. ]

Maybe I should be mad, but I can't be--because I'd be upset to learn that I was hurting people instead of helping them. Maybe talking to them will help.

I hope so. I hope a lot of them will be reasonable about it all and understand we're doing this to keep us safe from them while we work on getting through, not because we hate them or anything like that.

[ There's a long quiet moment as Sheena thinks. ]

I'd like to say for sure mine would be, but I have no idea what she'd be thinking at the time. She--We have had some experience with things like that.

Yeah. I'd like to think mine would be reasonable, but Castiel had to deal with it and he died. It's just not safe, even if they have our memories and some parts of our personalities.

Let's work on getting them contained, then we can work on talking with them.

[ Sheena rubs her hand across her face. ]

That's what I'm afraid of. [ A beat. ] And not just our memories and personalities. But our fighting abilities as well.

[ Who better to catch a ninja...than a ninja. ]

Well, we know a few of them are physically hampered, so we might have a bit of that going for us.

[ Sheena shakes her head. ]

John... I made vows to protect people--especially my friends. Sometimes doing whatever I need to do.

That's something we have to watch for in...oh...the Sheenomaly. [ Yeah, she named her. ] If she has that same mentality, combined with those fighting skills and an ability to control fire?

[ She leaves the question hanging--but the threat is very real. ]

If she has all that, Sheena, we'll deal with it. She might also be one of the people we can talk to. Maybe.

[ Sheena sighs. She feels as though John isn't taking this seriously. ]

John, you know me. You've talked to me. How many times have I acted without really thinking?

[ She knows her own flaws, but she won't stop some of them. She wouldn't be herself if she did. ]

Trust me, she has to be stopped before she makes any kind of move because if I can kill someone with one punch--so can she.

[ Yeah. This is serious. ]

[He can hope, Sheena.]

All right. We're not going to go easy on her. Or any of them, really. But we can keep a particular eye out in case we see her. I'd really rather do the minimal where possible, though, prevent contact, and just get the anomalies locked up out of the way.

[ How ironic. He's the one being hopeful, and she's the one being realistic. ]

Exactly. Don't go easy on her. If you fight her, she'd find that insulting--and she'd use that against anyone. Oh and uh...I know I can't do it with the doors here, but she might.

I know how to pick locks.

[ Gonna have to keep that in mind. ]

We'll have to get something she can't pick, then. There aren't many ways to pick a lock from the inside, I don't imagine.

If anyone has any more information -- any recent encounters, anything you've learned about the anomalies since we started this -- now's the last chance. We don't know how many of them or which ones will be there; the more information we have to work with, the better.

[John is just going to give Stephen a grateful and encouraging nod. Thank you for getting the extra info, friend.]

[ The private option is more for John than for Gabriel. He keeps his voice quiet and solemn, the accusatory tone completely missing this time. ]

I do hope this goes well, Dr. Watson. Stay as safe as you can, too. I think we might be heading towards no more revives, and I'd rather not find that out with you staying down.

[Gabe's voice immediately raises John's hackles, and he's fully prepared for another fight, to use this verbal spar to whet the proverbial knife. But the challenge doesn't come and Gabriel's words are actually... encouraging. John eyes the tablet suspiciously. Well. There's really no point in antagonizing them when they're going ahead with it, he supposes.]

Thank you, Mr. Gray. We'll do what we can.

[Gabriel is back to 'Mr. Gray' and may be for the foreseeable future. Especially depending on how things go.]

[ There's a small, awkward silence, followed by the expelling of breath almost loud enough to be a sigh. ]

Yeah. I-

I overreacted, before. Maybe I've gotten too used to not losing people. And this is- I'm not a person that tends toward friends, but I have them here. Too many. Some people I consider family now. So I'm-

[ He's scared about what might happen so far away from him, but he's not going to say that much. ]

Just do your best, and I'm not going to blame you for anything.

[John's frown at his tablet deepens.]

... Yeah. I'm worried about losing people. And... part of this is wanting to... do something. Haven't been able to do anything for a while. It's just... one of the few chances we have to hit back. To try to... I dunno... finally make this place safer for us. As best we can.

I'll blame myself if anything does happen. But we have got a lot of good people to try to make sure it doesn't. We'll do our best.

[ He hadn't expected John to do anything but storm off, so this is a little confusing. Nice, though. He's just not sure how to handle it from here. ]

Yeah.

That's how I feel, too, honestly. Why we went up and made the key. I know I shouldn't be ready to fight anyone, not- the way I am. But I could do that.

Anyway, I get it, wanting to affect something here. Do something useful.

Just- keep us informed, would you? If you can. And I'll give you guys any updates from the bunker. That's about all I can do right now.

Sure. That was the plan. We have got a plan. We're not just going in blind. I do promise you that, Mr. Gray.

[ He's quiet for a moment. ]

[Alfie snorts. Loudly. What wonderful commentary here from the gangster contingent.]

[John frowns at his tablet, seeing the username this message has come from.]

Nothing I've not said before.

[He coughs; clears his throat.]

I do hope this all goes well, though.

[Even though "Any failure, any lives lost, injuries sustained, those are on me" is making him severely roll his eyes, he still appreciates that John is actually trying to do something about the anomalies.]

I do, too. I'm doing my best to make sure it all runs smoothly and we have our bases covered for the different anomalies we know we might encounter.

[Sherlock might be technically in charge--John will absolutely defer to the other man provided he doesn't suggest something stupid--but John's going to take responsibility for it because someone has to. And the doctor has made himself the public face of it.]
