[network] voice; @standardissue; Someone set us up the bomb [Evening of day 65] [open]
Hey, everyone. We found something interesting. Unfortunately, we can't seem to get to it now, so all we have is the video we recorded. The house we found this in is in the northeast corner of the town on the northern wall, just a little west of the corner itself, but before you get to the park, if anyone else wants to try their luck.
And for the record, I would recommend extreme caution before trying what we did. Bombs aren't something you should play with if you don't know what you're doing, and the response to what we did...
Well, see for yourself.
[He switches over to the video they recorded.]
[A teenage boy's face is the first thing to be seen, framed by a mop of messy black hair that desperately needs a trim. Hiro's attention is only on the camera for a brief moment, though, before he turns to look at someone off screen.]
Okay, it's recording now. You're good to go!
[He steps away, disappearing from the camera's view, while the camera holds steady, as though fixed to something else. Visible in front of the camera now is a hallway with a door at the other end. There's a bottle of some sort (like the kind that bleach comes in?) taped with packing tape to the knob on the door.
There's also a man in what could be a military uniform, half obscured by the coat he has on. He's bent over, a hammer in his hand that he's banging on something made of metal. He grunts in acknowledgement of Hiro's remark, though.]
Just let me finish this last vent.
[A few more strong, swift blows and Zack straightens back up, admiring his work for a moment. The vent he'd been working on is clearly smashed shut.]
Alright. [That's Kunsel's voice.] Everyone to the door. Get ready to run on my command.
[A man enters the screen, dressed in the same kind of military fatigues (though purple instead of black) with a coat thrown over the top. His back is to the camera, and there's a helmet on his head, so not much of what he looks like can be seen, but he strides with swift purpose straight for the door at the other end. With a gloved hand, he uncaps the bottle, then with the other-]
Go!
[It's impossible to tell what he just dumped in, not with the camera swinging as the door Hiro's tablet is taped to gets jerked open. In fact, for a moment, nothing but wall can be seen, though there's plenty of noise in the flurry of movement of several people leaving the house. Over it all, combat boots pound. Kunsel and Zack clearly aren't interested in sticking around themselves.
Then the door swings back shut, cutting the noise outside off, and now there's only an empty, dimly lit room.
But not for long.
The bomb goes off with a deafening bang, snapping the doorknob off. Even part of the door itself seems to get blown off, but- no, it's just a chunk of the outer coating. It doesn't look like the door's made of wood at all, but some kind of coated metal. The door itself seems to be unharmed, remaining intact and on its hinges. It swings open lazily, opening inward, to reveal near-total darkness and a large, gleaming machine of some sort. It's impossible to make out the details of the machine, given the darkness, just that it exists and takes up probably the entire room it's in.
Then the vents drop to the floor as if they were opened from the inside and little, rapidly-moving multi-legged things, too difficult to discern the detail of in the darkness, swarm all over the area, shutting the door and climbing the walls and, eventually, grabbing the tablet. This is where the recording ends.]
[When it's done, Kunsel turns his tablet back to audio.]
After the bomb went off, we couldn't get back into the house. It wasn't lockdown, but it might as well have been, so we had to leave it there for the day. We went back this morning, though, and managed to get inside, but apparently something has sealed the inner door back shut. The knob's still broken, but the door won't budge. We couldn't see through the broken knob to the other side, either. Lacking supplies to do anything else, we're going to have to leave it like that for now.
Though speaking of which, if anyone has supplies they think might be useful for something like this, I might have some things I could trade. Of course, I figure actually meeting up might take some time, but we can work that out.

@lawbringer; audio
[ Miranda sounds downright delighted at the prospect. She's yet to find many supplies of her own, beyond the makings of a very expensive molotov cocktail. (She's planning to drink that wine, though.) ]
I wonder if they'll be more cautious in leaving supplies like this around in the future. I've ammonia and plenty of alcohol-based products as well as an aerosol can, if you're planning to have another go at it.
audio; @standardissue
[So many spiders. So many. And they even went to the effort to close and seal the door. That's definitely not the normal response to a tablet or something left behind in a room.]
The group I'm with is thinking of leaving this alone for now, or at least until we have supplies for another try. We've got some things we want to look into in the mean time.
[Yes, he's being vague, but it's not like he wants to advertise where exactly they plan to go.]
All three of those sound useful, though. [Technically, he's got a couple alcohol-based things, too, and Zell has ammonia. Jim's got an aerosol can, but that's part of his makeshift flamethrower, so Kunsel would prefer not to touch it unless it's necessary. Regardless, having extras on any of those things can't hurt.] Let me see what I have that might interest you in return.
[There's a pause and some rustling, then...]
Petroleum jelly, good for waterproofing things. A wire tool for clay, which would make a decent garrote. Makeup and hair ties? [She doesn't seem like the kind of person to worry too much about her looks, but you never know.] A pack of gum, breath mints, cigarettes, some kind of breakfast tea...
Actually, is there anything in particular you're hoping I'll have?
@TW; text
as far as potentially volatile chemicals go I got cologne, bleach and idk. deodorant?
your next bomb's gonna be bigger right
like big enough to blow right through the door and goof up that machine
text; @standardissue
Bleach is always useful.
[For more than one reason.]
Anything in particular you're hoping I'll have, or do you want me to just list off what I have that I'm willing to trade?

...I'm going to assume there are few ideas on what the machine inside might be.
voice; @standardissue
But.
Through it all, Kunsel had been listening. He'd been paying attention to Sephiroth, trying to see if this was the general that he knew. And what he saw... Well, he's still cautious, because the potential in the future is still there, but he's also cautiously hopeful. Sephiroth still seemed completely sane and in control. Maybe things don't have to go the same way as before.
So Kunsel's response now is cautious, but neutral.]
Given the level of technology in the tablets and how compact they are, something as big as what we saw must be massively complex. I have a few ideas, but I could also be completely wrong.
[He pauses to gauge Sephiroth's level of interest.]
no subject
Which are?
[ the ideas, that is. sephiroth would have to admit he can't say much about the machine's purpose or function based on the dim view through the video feed, so really any guesses kunsel has are already something. ]

[ seriously, Kunsel. Jim told him what was going on of course but still.
but the footage is startling -- especially when he sees the multi-legged things in the locked room. the progress is noteworthy though. it doesn't seem like this place anticipated them gathering up that much fire power. ]
Is everyone okay, though? Maybe we can work on something in smaller scale -- smaller bombs in different areas. Set off the blasts and charges and we might be able to do a little more damage. Or focus it better.
voice; @standardissue
[That's really a rhetorical question, though, so he's just going to move on.]
We're all fine, thank you for asking. I'm not sure scale is the problem here exactly, though. We got the door open just fine. The problem is that it was sealed back shut before we could get inside. If we could have stayed inside when it went off, then maybe...
no subject
[ it's not a real judgment, more amusement now than anything, but the fact that they built one and it worked is impressive. ]
Mm. There's not a lot around here to help protect from blasts like that, unless we could maybe get some of the bricks and things from other houses, build a blast wall or something. But in such a closed space... [ he sighs a little. ] It's still great, what you managed to do. Did you use up all of your supplies with that one bomb?

action;
Don't think we can find enough scrap metal to cover you. You're pretty big, man.
[Looking Kainsel over as he scratches the back of his head.] If we can find something to weld some of the scrap metal together...
Wait. WHOA [Dropping his tablet as he gestures widely with his arms.] Why would you want to go in there? We all saw those vents covers being ripped off from the inside. They have some sort of invisible guy or ghost on their side. I don't think anything is going to protect anyone from that.
action;
I'm actually not that concerned about the spiders. They seem more like a tool for the admin than anything sentient. They might not even be interested in us, just in fixing the damage we did.
[Still, that doesn't stop him from staring at Zell, bemused.]
What do you mean, an invisible guy?
no subject
Didn't it look like something opened the vents? I don't think those spiders can do that. Not with how smashed they were.
[He was going to show Kainsel the replay of it again, but tablet is on the floor some where...Oh well.]
Man, just imagine all those things climbing on you... [He isn't afraid of bugs, but imagining all those legs being all over was major yuck] They'll probably knock anyone out like they did with Angel and Rhys.

[Said in the voice of a man who bears a grudge against "that door"]
What supplies might you need?
voice; @standardissue
Anything flammable, anything that can create a volatile chemical reaction - things like that. Batteries, iodine, bleach, alcohol, ammonia, aerosol cans, to name a few examples.
[He's assuming Haurchefant knows what all those things are.]
What do you have?
no subject
[A sigh.]
And yes, I know that door. Do you perchance recall the day I arrived? You and I spoke at length and I told you about a door that would not budge no matter how many times I threw myself against it. 'Twas that door. I awoke here in the hallway of that building and spent most of a day there in, well...."shock" is the best word, I think...
Anyroad I find myself thinking about that door from time to time and wondering what could make our keepers so zealous in their effort to keep it sealed.

Is everyone with you all right? No retaliation from their end?
voice; @standardissue
[They'd still been cautious about opening that door, though, and had left it open for a good amount of time before entering, just in case.]
As far as I'm aware, there's been no retaliation. Just the door getting sealed back shut.
[Too bad there's no way for him to know that there were consequences for this.]
