Vicodin. A soft sleepy cloud of Percocets and Xanax. Morphine. God, Rhys could go for painkillers right now, and something to sleep. Just a nice cocktail of everything, chased down with a pint of ice cream.

He's not getting it, though, so best not to even think about it.

"Wish I could, man." His voice is small and reluctant, and another shudder passes through him. "They did something to me, nanite drug shit, but all it did was stop me from fighting or passing out."

"Great." House continues to rub his hand over his thigh. "Welp. Guess we just gotta plan for when they come back. You every been in the joint, you handsome devil, you? 'Cause I'm open for suggestions on how to make the jailers lives miserable when they come back for us."

Rhys snorts.

"Hey, when I was in, you tried not to piss off the screws. You piss them off, you just got the shit beaten out of you and a week in the hole."

Plus, everyone liked Rhys. Or was scared of him. A little bit of both. He was the quiet guy who could make weird shit happen if you messed with him, and that was a good reason to leave him alone.

After the incident with the snakes, everyone gave him plenty of room.

"I don't know. You have a fine and exciting array of bodily fluids at your disposal. Be creative?" He grins, flashing teeth in an unpleasant grin. "I have faith in your powers of spite."

"Just as long as you don't have faith in the Prophet, bro." He sighs and laughs shortly, the sound bitter. "You know, I can't help thinking, this is our little Winter Way's fault. Ever since the first time she accessed the network... that's when the shadows of people turned up. The ones who started shouting about the Prophet. They didn't turn up until she contacted us. And then they're the ones in the static. The static never came before her. It gets worse each time she breaks into the network. When she' made our PMs private, the Prophet creatures turned up. We started turning into anomalies after that. Everything coming up about our lights."

This may be complete nonsense to Rhys, but House is thinking out loud more than actually talking to him now.

It's mostly nonsense, but Rhys recognizes when someone is getting something out of their system. He listens quietly, letting House rant, and trying to process as much of it as he can compared to the bits that he's understood from the guides on the tablet.

It's still a lot of nothing to him, but he shakes his head.

"I'm an extra-special Chosen snowflake, remember? I lose my Goth Royalty cred if I just sign on with any weird deity that comes along." He smirks, because no, he hasn't forgotten that first conversation.

House rolls his eyes, the comment drawing him back to the present moment. "Yeah, so just a heads up, I was basically insane the first time we talked." There's no basic about it. Although, that had been one of the conversations that had felt more him. Albeit, him hopped upon about six shots of espresso and a hit of speed.

"But hey, you got into the sealed tower, druid boy. Congrats. Maybe your skull belt lady'll come and save us. Any chance you got her magical number to call? maybe if you sketch out an arcane circle in blood or something."

"I don't think my Divine Cellular Service reaches out here," he responds, staring at the torn lines on his palm wearily. Not that he expected She would help him in this, anyway. That first time had been the hook and bait. Now, all She had to do was reel him in. That was how it worked.

"And...you were insane?"

He's heard stories, House. Also, you got yourself killed.

"You should switch to Spirint. Better coverage, I hear." Not that that was ever going to work, but told flat out is maybe a little disheartening. House doesn't actually expect any of them to get out of here until some unspeakable torture has been visited on all of them. But it would be nice if that didn't happen. He likes surprised in these instances.

At the question, though, he scoffs. "More actual insanity, less 'oh, that cuh-razy House and his experiments.'"

Rhys snorts quietly.

"Gotcha. You know, I feel sorry for anyone who ever has to play legal defense for you. Just as a completely random note." Even Rhys isn't sure if that's a compliment or not, but he has a feeling that one day the situation will come up.

"And, I dunno. I hear Sprint's latest contract might require firstborn children, and I'm a little short on those right now." A quick flash of teeth, not quite a grin.

At least he's not out there reproducing. That can only be good, right?

[personal profile] rubikscomplex 2017-08-03 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
"Legal defense was my ex most recently. That was fun while it lasted. Still totally into me, FYI." Just so you know, Rhys. Mention of Stacy makes his leg hurt more for no particular reason and he rubs over his thigh once more with a grimace.

"So, you can work it out when you have one. The whole contract thing. Best way I know how to run a blood pact. Never have kids and sell your soul to multiple demons. Let them fight over who has the more legit claim."
sleight_of_fate: laughing (laughing)

[personal profile] sleight_of_fate 2017-08-03 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
That gets a surprised bark of laughter out of Rhys. Because that is...actually not terrible thinking.

Or maybe it is terrible thinking, but either way he actually approves of that particular plan.

"I think I'm glad as hell you don't have magic. I'd be very worried if you did." Even more worried.

"Magic is cheating, anyway." There's the ding of the elevator down the hall and House stumbles back from the bars. The tromp of feet isn't loud, so it's one of the smaller ones, one of the kids. "We'll chat after if this one isn't for me, Diviciacus."

He retreats to the bathroom and pulls off his hospital gown to tie to the plumbing. Rhys will hear Kid's voice as the convert stops to open House's cell.
sleight_of_fate: Just looking (just looking)

[personal profile] sleight_of_fate 2017-08-06 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hey, those who can, do. Those who can't, bitch." Rhys actually can't right this moment, but the point sort of stands.

'Good luck' sounds hollow to say when he's watching House get taken away to the same hellish fate that he's suffered, but Rhys respects the man enough to bear witness. He nods solemnly as House retreats into the bathroom to stage his last stand, quietly rooting for the doctor. No smartassery now...just as much silent solidarity as he can muster.
