[network] @ADMIN; Arrival
Welcome to Norfinbury. The time is E̛̬̞͖͖̫R҉͖̯̬R̼̻͉̰͎̳̙O̩͓͔̫͇͈̯R and the date is E̛̬̞͖͖̫R҉͖̯̬R̼̻͉̰͎̳̙O̩͓͔̫͇͈̯R. This network has been provided for your use. Please interact politely with everyone else on this network.

That's funny. How long have you known him? Sometimes it takes people a very long time to figure that out, if they do at all.
[ Is he impressed? Perhaps. ]
Marital status limits- Okay.
[ TMI? Maybe. No offense to Mary, but he'd rather not know too much about House's sex life. ] Should I even ask what it is that just happened? Or I suppose a better question is, can I ask that?
[ He has really no idea what he's walked into here, or what's been going on prior to his arrival. ]
Yes to both things. Actually, yes to all of the above, and thank you.
-->Private [Video] cw: references to surgery and torture
I first spoke with him when I arrived and he's been keen on deciding if I am happily married or not ever since. He likes to see if I would consider any extramarital activities whenever he's got the chance, I've noticed. [Thoughtfully, she tilts her head.] And before you think I'm anything less than a lady, I am very happily married and a mum to a beautiful baby girl. The answer has always been no.
[The joking tone drops instantly and her posture shifts when he asks about what had just happened. An image of Mycroft's ill, scarred and terrified figure crowded her thoughts as she spoke. Before she continues, she switches the feed to private.]
A program called convertpurge.exe was running, something the Admin was not aware of. Several people were removed from their locations and taken to a building--I would point it out on your map, but sources now say that the building is entirely gone.
Those who were taken were split into groups. Some were brainwashed to be believers in the prophet--a known religious group here with very cultist leanings. The remaining people were left to be "converted". [Even hardened to violence as she is, Mary had struggled with the surgeries that has been done. In the subsequent days, she'd struggled watching the converts fight their brainwashing; she runs her hands over her face.] The conversion process required surgery, which was truly nothing less than mutilation. It was torture for everyone involved.
The Admin did a system reboot. I would think this is when the entire town reports losing consciousness. [She nods slightly, recognition that there's a hole in her information here.] When everyone woke up again, those who had been taken were returned to their starting locations as if nothing had happened.
Your friend was one of the victims subjected to surgery. So--why not humor him a little? He's had a very rough few days.
Private [Video] cw: references to surgery and torture
[ House is an ass at times, and he has zero problems smashing right through boundaries and rules of propriety. ] I wasn't thinking anything along those lines. House has a way of making everyone look less-than-stellar, but it's rare for people to actually be that way.
[ People aren't perfect, but they aren't all debased or given over to debauchery.
But once Mary gets to explaining the program and its horrific results, Wilson's joking tone completely vanishes. In its replace is a look of absolute horror. ]
You're kidding me- Except this is all too terrible to be a joke.
[ He looks at her, wishing she would tell him all of this is a joke, but he knows that's not a response he's going to get. ]
Brainwashing? Torture and mutilation disguised as surgery? I don't even want to know what kind of person designed such a program.
[ Mary might notice that there's a slight shaking of Wilson's video feed, as if he's almost dropped his tablet. It resolves itself a few seconds later, though. ]
And House- He was put through that?
[ Of course Wilson feels terrible for all the victims, whether he knows them or not, but- Why didn't House say something?
...Never mind that it's House and he wouldn't talk about it, especially not on a network like this. But knowing that he wasted time trading barbs with House and bantering around when all the time this had happened leaves Wilson with a very sick feeling. ]
I had no idea any of that had happened. You all should be humored a little. Or a lot.
[ And now some of his earlier conversations with Quark and others have just become terribly clear. ]
Private [Video] cw: references to surgery and torture
People are trying to act normal. For some--like your friend--it's going well enough. They're at least a little bit convincing. For others... [She thinks of the conversation she'd read Mycroft having. The disjointed text, the stilted dialogue. Her chest tightens.] ...not so much.
Don't be too kind. You'll need to save some of that goodwill for yourself. For one thing, we'll need the medical help. For another, don't expect to be spared. Terrible things happen regularly here, and while this was exceptionally horrific it was not unusual.
Private [Video] sorry, that last one got a little tl;dr there
Well, everyone has their own coping mechanism. If acting normal is how they want to do it, then let them.
[ Not just leave them to their own devices, of course, but unless they're actively doing something unhealthy or unsafe, Wilson sees no reason to stop people from using whatever coping method they choose. ]
I don't have any expectations at all. At least, not after hearing what some of you had to say about this place.
[ He just hopes he manages to keep his head whenever the time comes. ]
Private [Video] I started the tl;dr sooo
Probably best that you don't. Even without any horrid events, the town is a destitute wasteland.
It is important to note that your friend has been responsible for a handful of rather dangerous experiments. Reading through the network, I've seen that he's helped us learn quite a bit about the town... [A concerned gaze lands on him, as best it can via video feed.] But he has been quite reckless. Won't be hard for you to go back and see what he's done. I'll leave you to it.
[Resting her chin on her palm, she blinks.] By the way, I've no idea your specialty, doctor, but if you need an extra set of hands I am a nurse. We may share a surname but I was working--and with a license!--before I married John.
Private [Video]
That reckless quality of his isn't always a good thing.
[ He pauses for a moment to take a breath. ]
I'm an oncologist, which I don't think will be of much use around here. Still, when it comes to injuries and the like, I'm hoping to at least be useful. And thanks for the offer.
[ There's another second's pause. ]
Feel free to call me Wilson, if you want to.
Private [Video]
She chooses to say nothing, lips pressed into a thin line as Wilson presses on.]
Anyone could need anything. And my understanding is that most American oncologists practice hematology/oncology. John may well be able to use your help with the blood transfusions for MN poisoning. We have so few compatible donors...
Your specialty notwithstanding, I imagine you know how to manage various internal medicine issues. That seems to be the majority of issues here, along with MN poisoning and traumatic injury.
Private [Video]
Yes, that would be correct. I should mention that to him the next time we happen to talk. Can you tell me a little more about MN poisoning?
[ Wilson nods. Mary strikes him as someone very perceptive, which is a quality he appreciates. Still, he has a question to follow up what she's just said. ]
How easy is it to obtain medical supplies? I'm thinking of general first aid things, but also more specialized items.
Re: Private [Video]
[She scratches her chin, thoughtful.] Most every medical supply I've gotten my hands on has been makeshift or repurposed. We've not got much. Bandages from the cleaneat fabric we can find, needle and thread for sutures...
[She sighs.] If you find something and it looks even remotely useful, you'd best keep it.
Private [Video]
[ He frowns, but then he just shrugs. Maybe they'll solve the puzzle and maybe they won't, but he's still at least hoping someone among them might. ]
Good tip, thanks.
[ He means that honestly. Coming from a place where medical supplies are almost always readily available means that this will require no small amount of adjustment. ]
