[log] Comorbidity [closed]
Characters: John Watson, Death the Kid, Franken Stein, and Undertaker
Location House 58
Date: Night 171
Summary: This is a house with a lot of problems in it. Watson, Kid, and Stein run into Undertaker for the night.
Warnings: Possible talk of death, morbid discussions.
[A simple single-story building, the snow weighs uneasily on it, and it creaks and groans under the strain at the best of times. It's very dark, and only the kitchen and living room are intact. The kitchen has a back door. Two snowmen have been built outside. A message has been written on the wall in blue ink: "Don't wreck the snowmen! That's super mean!" "ALPHONSE ELRIC, MAMI TOMOE, FREYA CRESCENT, GREED, EDWARD ELRIC, STEPHANIE BROWN, DAY FORTY ONE, TRAVELLING EAST." has been carved into one of the walls. The following has been written on the wall in blue pen: "This is Building95 97 on the composite map. Contact @CaptSteveRogers for details." Underneath this is a fairly accurate map showing the house in relation to the school and buildings 29, 35, 35, 37, 40, 41, 47, 48, 50, 53. House 34 is labeled "Medical assistance; hot, clean water. Contact Dr. Epps @claytonator". The school is labeled "School. Food available in cafeteria; DO NOT STAY HERE OVERNIGHT." The shed is labeled "Shed".]

Kid ponders what he might want to talk about for a few moments, then:]
Undertaker is an unusual name.
[He said he wasn't sleepy, not that he was at his conversational peak.]

My father choose a very appropriate name for me, and I would prefer you not call me "Kiddy". That is not even my full name.
Is "undertaker" your profession?
no subject
[He nods at the next question, however.] My main one, yes.
no subject
no subject
[Hah.] But I don't see what that has to do with your name, either.
no subject
[Kid fiddles with the straw on the milk. Undertaker's relaxed attitude unnerves him just enough to get under his skin. He is intended to be a guardian of human souls, after all.]
I didn't say it had anything to do with my name. What I said is that I was inclined to believe you would make fun, and that such behavior was not becoming of a man in your position. You are the last one in contact with that person. It would do to have a little respect.
My name is Death the Kid, if you intend to be so insistent.
no subject
Well, when he wasn't using them in experiments or selling their bodies to medical science, that is.]
I save most of the discomfort for the living, actually. They're better entertainment.
[The admission of that name does give him pause, though. He tenses almost imperceptibly, eyes narrowing lightly behind his bangs though his lips remain curved in a smile. Reaching up, he taps the ends of his long nails against his bottom lip.]
It's still a ridiculous name.
no subject
Were he more himself, more alert and healthy, he might have noticed the slight shift in the other man's position. But he doesn't; instead Kid is disrupted by coughing before he can finish his thought.]
And living souls deserve just as much respect.
no subject
[Because that would explain, well, both the name and his caring about how the living and the dead are treated. Even if it makes little sense from his own perspective. Reapers couldn't be born from each other.]
no subject
Ordinarily quite proud of his heritage, Kid isn't sure how he feels about Undertaker knowing. But he's already put the pieces together...] Yes. That is precisely what I am implying.
no subject
Well, he might be doing this partially for show but Undertaker begins to giggle, and then chortle. He sinks backwards, a fist covering his mouth as the giggling turns into full-out laughter as he tries in vain to muffle it.
The man even has tears leaking from the corners of where his eyes would be underneath his bangs.]
no subject
[Don't react. Don't react, don't react, don't react.
Maybe he reacts a little, smushing the milk box in his hand just slightly.]
You will wake everyone up, and they are trying to sleep.

And when he doesn't, Undertaker gets the open carton of milk lobbed at his head. Hard. For someone his size, Kid could make that little piece of cardboard move pretty fast.
He did at least have the courtesy to finish drinking it first, though. Waste not want not.]
You are an ass and I would appreciate it if you would shut up.
[Kid has been spending too much time with BlackāStar and the Thompson sisters.]
no subject
I never thought I'd hear something like that... spoken here. And with such earnestness, too...! Hee Hee~!
no subject
[For the very uptight, anxious front he was displaying a bit ago, Kid now looks every ounce his age: arrogant and indignant.]
no subject
But you can't really be serious about being the son of Death, right? How's that even possible?
no subject
[Kid's expression has not changed, jaw set.] That is how it is possible.
no subject
Which, from this close and in this darkness there's the slightest hint of color behind the silver bangs. But it's gone when Undertaker abruptly moves back again and resumes his lazy sit.]
I think you're bluffing. [Actually, he doesn't doubt that Kid's telling the truth, but he doesn't want to believe it.]
no subject
When Undertaker sits back, Kid remains stock still.]
Believe what you will.
no subject
Guess we're at an impasse. [Flopping back again, he rolls onto his side and pulls his pack beneath his head. Apparently he's going to try for sleep again.]
no subject
[Kid watches Undertaker flop back, quietly rifling through his bag and placing the last container of milk beside the man.]
...my apologies for throwing that carton at you earlier.
[He doesn't wait for a reply, getting to his feet and taking his backpack with him as he moves towards where Stein is sleeping.]
