[He gives a somewhat brittle laugh. After seeing some of the others, he really can't complain.]
I'm kinda sliced up, but I'm alright. This is actually not the worst I've ever been fucked up, so I'm just going to shut up and see if I can do anything for anyone else.
You... Don't sound great. But you're moving around, at least?
no subject
Really? Where'd you even come from? [ Somewhere Vasquez wants to avoid, that's for sure. ]
...yeah, seems like it. Sucks doing it, though.
[ The robotic hand jitters and seizes when he tries to move, and the noise startles him for half a second. He realizes pretty quickly that it's not going to let go of the bar, and he resigns himself to staying put for the time being with a frustrated sigh. ]
Can't say I'm havin' a real easy time figuring out what happened, which is...probably a good thing. Not that it's hard to guess.
[ Going off of sound alone had given him plenty of information on what had happened-- he didn't really want any more detail than that. ]

[THIS IS FINE. EVERYTHING IS GREAT.]
At least I got my initiation over with quick.
And yeah. I don't think it's anything you want to think too much about. I sure as hell ain't. Better to rest, try and get some strength back, and put our info together.

[ EVERYTHING SURE IS GREAT, YEAH ]
...that's-- a way to look at it. Once we're done with this, you're about as in it as you can get. You're a real Norfinbury citizen now! Woo.
[ He even does an unenthusiastic jazz hand for roughly two seconds-- the cyborg one isn't moving, so the one will have to do. It's official now, though, singular jazzing or no! ]
Dunno how much use I'll be, but maybe I can come up with something. Best I can do.

[He does smile a little.]
If we get out of here, though, I'll buy you a drink. If we get out of here and I find a place with booze. Or find the stuff to make some prison wine. You know, bonding shit.
no subject
[ Vasquez is silent for a few seconds after the offer-- he hasn't had a drink in ages, and if they got out of here in one piece, then would certainly be the best time for it. Prison wine or no, it'd count enough for him. He musters a quiet chuckle, although it sounds just as rough as he feels. ]
Y'know? I'll take you up on that. I've heard of a few people that found booze out there, and the town owes us that much after all this. Maybe we'll even find some of the good stuff.
no subject
[Bonding through bad habits. No wonder they're getting along so beautifully?]
And if there isn't a chapter on escaping murder cults, we can write it. Over those beers or whatever. You know this is my second fucking time?
I had to get rescued by my IT guy. True story.

[ It's a little strange, sitting here making plans like this. He gets what Rhys is trying to do, though, and he'd be hard pressed to say it wasn't working-- even if he's having some trouble speaking, he's definitely a whole hell of a lot more calm than he was earlier. Their chat's giving him something else to do besides sit in darkness and stew, and it's helped keep his mind off the pain. ]
Gotta admit, I probably owe you a whole bottle to yourself by now. I'll even try finding the good shit for you, unless you prefer trash wine.
[ No wonder this guy was so calm, then-- if he'd gotten through this sort of thing before, he was likely just about bombproof. ]
You either have the worst luck known to man, or you spent a while on Pandora. [ Except he's not from there, because Vasquez actually likes him. 'Pandoran' and 'approved of' are still mutually exclusive. ] Was your guy worth a damn, or were you waiting a while? Mine always sucked.
no subject
Nah. Trash wine pretty much tastes like the worst screwdriver you've ever had. But beggars can't be choosers.
And I never thought that would be a valuable life skill. But go figure, huh?
[Rhys gives a little snort.]
The funny thing is, I didn't know he was a gun-toting badass. He was like five-six and played guitar on Saturday nights on open mike night. He just also happened to work for this shady hacker outfit, and when I dropped off the map, he came looking. So I wasn't expecting a rescue, and then all of a sudden there he is at the door with a gun and a crowbar.
Craziest damn moment. I thought I'd finally cracked, but nope.
no subject
[ And desperate! That's what a few months in a frozen hellscape will do to you. ]
Hey, look at it this way-- it'll definitely come in handy here. You let the network know you can make alcohol, and I bet you're gonna get swamped.
[ Alright, that-- sounds way cooler than anything his division's IT guys ever did. How come Hyperion couldn't get anybody like that? ]
Man, what the hell? You get the IT guy that's actually capable, I just get a pack of code monkeys that don't know their heads from their asses. Need to start hiring from where you got yours.
no subject
Only problem is, you have to keep that shit warm to get it to turn into alcohol, and I can't even keep myself warm, never mind a bag full of wine. Unless I want to spend a week with it snuggled up to my crotch.
[Crotch wine. Wouldn't that be a selling point? But then again, when you've got the market cornered...]
And you could start hiring from where I get mine, but you also have to remember that I collect the crazy like you would not believe. For every competent IT guy I get, I also get the guy who left me in Montana as a sacrifice for the owls.
[Yes, he said that with a completely straight face.]
no subject
[ He figures it depends on who you ask, but Vasquez reasons it's safe to call it anyway. ]
Try it when we get out, anyway. I bet somebody'd take you up on it-- it's more reliable than going through buildings and hoping for the best, crotch proximity or no.
[ That could use a little rebranding. It's something to brainstorm, anyway, and it's not like they don't have free time to do it. ]
Montana, huh. I'll keep that in mind.
[ The way he says the name makes it sound like he's completely unfamiliar with it, which is pretty damn accurate. If they weren't where they were, he would've at least put a little more effort into coming off as knowledgeable, but he's too tired to give much of a shit. ]
Hiring offworld's such a pain in the ass, though. Unless you like dealing with paperwork for days, in which case I'm gonna be judging you pretty hard.
no subject
[Yes, Rhys is horrible. He's had many years of practice at it.]
Montana. He went for beer.
[He says it with exactly enough emphasis that it tells a person all they need to know about how horrible it is.]
And no way, man. Office work is the death of the soul. I dunno about hiring offworld, but I've heard some hinky things about non-union werewolves?
