I've been doing a lot of thinking lately--seems like I haven't been giving myself the chance to do enough of it. Realized I owe some apologies. I would send most of these out privately, but I also realize that one of the issues I've been giving people is lack of accountability, so. I want to put these out where everyone can make sure I'm doing this right. Trade one public spectacle for another, I guess.

To House: There's no excuse for the suffering you went through because of me. I should've sent your pills back as soon as they arrived. My own paranoia of using Admin's medical assistance clouded my judgement in a way that wasn't fair to you or Rhys and made a joke of my profession. I'm glad you're healed now, and I'll trust you to make good progress with the rest. You don't have to worry about me taking them again.

To Beckett: Maybe you really are selfish, but I can't blame you for lashing out at me like you have when I've been so absolutely stifling to you. A lot of things are different for you from at home--there's a lot for you to figure out about yourself, and your natural curiosity lends you to explore it as much as you can. It's wrong of me to try and smother that out of you and berate you for trying things for yourself. You're smart enough to work all that out on your own. I'm still here to help, if you need me.

To Angel: People trust you for a reason and it was pretty dumb of me to question why. I don't think you would ever tell people to harm themselves for any reason. I have no idea what possessed me to imply that you would. Frustration, panic, lack of self-worth, I guess...none of that's excusable for my behavior and I feel awful for having ever doubted you. You're bright and compassionate and a much better leader for these people than I could ever be. You're capable of making your own decisions and I ought to respect that. I haven't been. I'm sorry.

To Rhys: I really haven't given you the credit and care that you deserve. What you did last week was very brave. I know you knew this wasn't going to end well, but you did it for the sake of the town; I should be commending you for standing up for everyone, not blaming you for hurting yourself. It was noble. I'm sorry for doubting you, and I hope you feel well enough to see your sacrifice pan out.

To Jade and Brian: The town as my witness, I promise to never meddle in either of your affairs unless you explicitly ask me to, here and after we leave. I know just apologizing isn't enough, so the least I can do is stay out of both of your lives so you two can survive with some ounce of peace.

To Steph, if you ever get to see this: I should have supported you more. I'm so sorry.

And to Norfinbury: Claiming that any of you can't make decisions for yourselves was downright insulting of me. We need to get out of here. I would prefer if we could do it peacefully, and I know I'm not capable of going through with anything quite so drastic as what happened recently, but...I can't keep holding onto that view, and I sure as hell can't force it on everyone else. My job isn't to stop people from putting themselves in harm's way, or even to decide what is and is not ultimately harmful for them; my job is to support those that are hurt, no matter what they've done, and make sure they survive whatever they've been through so they can enjoy living again. I lost sight of that, I don't know how many months ago, and I've been a real ass about it in the meanwhile. I'm sorry. I'll do my best to improve, if any of you are still willing to let me.

Good evening, everyone. This is Dr. John Watson. I wanted to let people know about something we discovered recently. I was able to prescribe medicine that the Admin delivered, as-requested, to a patient I'm looking after. I'd hesitate to go wild and start writing prescriptions left and right after the shut down of the emergency medical assistance not to long ago.

But I wanted the other physicians to be aware of this, as well as anyone who's in dire need. Please talk to one of us privately, if you'd like. Hopefully, we can get you sorted out with the right meds and the Admin will be able to assist. As a note, I'm on my way to the clinic near the school. Hopefully should arrive in just a few more days. I'll be setting up shop there for a while if anyone's in the area and needs assistance.

Thanks! And a belated Happy New Year to all. Think Captain Rogers and Ms. Carter handled that well enough. Good on them. My resolution's to get out of this place, hmm?

Hey. I made a program, sort of a second network you can run. It's text-only but the admin shouldn't be able to see it when you use it as long as you only use it for important things. Don't talk about dumb stuff on there, since the more it's used the higher the chance the unmonitored traffic will be noticed.

Problem: unmonitored download traffic? Also suspicious. I can give you five copies, and then you guys will have to figure out how to spread them and who to spread them to. I'm not going to decide who gets them, you guys are going to discuss it among yourselves and give me five names. I don't really care who gets them, except I'm not giving one to Mister Murder Blackmail.

Personally, I suggest a vote.

(Winter will not be responding to this post! It's intended for use for discussing who should receive the programs.)

[Their breathing is rapid-fire, choked with sobs. Frisk has only ever cried once before on the network, and they weren't in their right mind them. They aren't much better now, though at least they seem to be in the present. Mostly.

Occasionally as they speak, there's the sound of Frisk banging and scratching on something wooden. A door.]

They're- they're outside Mom, and Mr. Shiro, they're outside-

You guys said powers don't work here but I keep seeing it, I keep seeing it and then we're alive again, but they're still outside-

[Their voice becomes more blurred as they go, punctuated with sobs and hiccups and coughs (the crying turning them into something horrible-sounding) so it's difficult to understand at times.]

But we're not going back! We gotta figure out how to make it work right- then I can go back I have to go back I have to tell us to not go out today I have to keep us safe. Please, somebody-

[Not to mention if they figure it out, the it won't matter what they're saying. That they're talking about this. They'll be back at the beginning and everybody will have forgotten. There has to be a way and yet- They're losing steam, fist banging a few times onto the door before falling still.]

Mom, Shiro-

[It's their fault. It's all their fault.]

I'm sorry I want to go back but I'm not-

[It's clear they're trying to say more, but there's nothing else coherent that can be understood.]

[[ooc; threadjackings from Toriel and Shiro (alive but doomed), and Yukio (alive and Upset) are probably a thing that might happen, their muns being willing.]]

[The video starts off focused on Fiona, who looks pretty pleased with herself, and who is also dutifully wearing the flower crown Angel gave her on top of her hat.]

Hey, Norfinbury. Today’s your lucky day. I’ve got some stuff I don’t need.

[The camera pans down to a few items all organized neatly on the floor - a red, standard issue Norfinbury coat, a toothbrush, and most interestingly perhaps, two boxes of condoms. She picks one of these up.]

Besides the obvious, I’m sure you can find a few uses for these. Waterproofing? A slimy purse? I’ll divide them up into lots if enough of you want them.

[She turns the camera around again, and gives the network an expectant smile.]

So, let’s hear what you’ve got. Make me some offers.

[For the first time the Joker shows his face to the Network. His features are gaunt, slightly crazed, and oddly clown-like.

He smiles into the camera almost flirtatiously and waves with his fingertips.]

Hello, honeys, it's your pal Jack White here... Or the Joker. Jeepers me, I guess that little secret is out by now.

[He coughs into his fist.]

Anyhoo, let me get to the point.

By now everyone is probably deciding that the next logical step is to dig deep.

Before you all grab your shovels and ice picks I advise you to think.

[He taps the side of his head.]

Don't go doing anything crazy now! Hahah...

If you do, you might find the punchline to this whole cruel gag is not terribly funny.

[A thoughtful pause.]

Oh, and if anyone sees the United States tell him I think he has my stuff. I want my stuff back.

[ Rhys appears onscreen, looking like he's just returned from a trip to Hell. His port looks warped, and the skin around it has been badly burned. He's got an odd, far-away look in his eyes, which doesn't go away when he speaks. ]

Hey.

So.

I did the -- the hacking thing, before every -- before we all went to sleep. And, before the admin or. Or whoever launched their counterattack, I saw something.

[ There's a pause. A long pause. A long, dramatic pause. ... ...actually he's just staring into the distance, completely motionless. For a full minute. A woman's voice from offscreen, gentle but prodding, calls his name, but even that fails to get his attention.

The video cuts, and when Rhys returns, he looks frustrated and embarrassed. But he continues like nothing happened. ]

I wish I could be more specific. I can't -- I can't describe it, but it's under the town hall. Dig deep.

Aaaand I saw myself die, like, eighteen bajillion times. That was cool too.

This is a public service announcement courtesy of your friendly neighborhood troll, reporting now for the Dragonyy'yd News Network. I am deigning to use voice here so that no one can get uppity about not being able to read my quirk even though it's just a simple alphanumeric substitution, that's how serious I am! Potentially disturbing news will be mentioned, so audience discretion is advised!

I am afraid that I will not be the bearer of any good news tonight. Zach, Kesara, and I have been heading towards the tunnels to get downtown these past few days. Earlier today, we ran into professional douchebag Handsome Jack. There was an altercation between him and Zach, and Zach... didn't make it. Kesara was injured in the crossfire, but fortunately suffered no life-threatening injuries. She got a pretty nasty bump on the head, though, and will be under close supervision Jack was also killed shortly after the fight. Please check your local morgues for a follow-up on this event.

This has been Terezi Pyrope with the DNN. Please call or mail in if you desire further details on this story.

[Terezi pauses for a moment before continuing.]

My condolences for those who know Zach. I hope he revives soon.

[Steve looks a little tired, and solemn, what with all the death and chaos that's been happening, but he's slightly less brusque and businesslike than he often is when making PSAs.]

Good afternoon, Norfinbury. ...So, uh, since I arrived here I've been keeping really close track of sunrise and sunset times... best as I can, anyway, with the weather. After today, I'm certain—the days are getting longer again. Far as I can tell, we passed the winter solstice three days ago. This is good news—we'll have more and more daylight hours from here on out, and eventually better weather and warmer temperatures.

This also tells us a little about where we are. Winter previously told me that Norfinbury is near a town called Kotzebue and that we're in the Northwest Arctic Borough; America was able to tell me that Kotzebue's on Alaska's west coast, about thirty miles north of the Arctic Circle. Since we never had a day of no sun, this puts us by definition south of the Arctic Circle, and south of Kotzebue. We ought to be fairly near the coast as well, which is a good thing, although what that could mean in terms of actual mileage is anyone's guess.

[Steve pauses for a moment, and his face takes on a softer, kind of wistful expression.]

...All of this also means we know the date. If the solstice was three days ago, then today is December 24. Tomorrow is Christmas. [Tiniest of slightly sad smiles.] Merry Christmas, everyone, and God bless you.

Those of you not from Earth or a version of Earth I'd recognize... Christmas is one of our most important holidays. It's a time for peace and goodwill to all people. A time for giving. A time to show love and kindness to each other.

I pray that we can all find just a little bit of that peace this Christmas.

*Sup Norfinbury, its time for creepy video sharing time!
It starts off with a shot of snow and rubble. How exciting! It stays on this for a bit, so its okay if one thinks this might be boring video sharing time at first. After a few more shots of snow and rubble and perhaps a bit more snow the video jumps to...something. Its too heavily distorted to see what, but the normal screen-pulling Norfinbury distortions are present as well as Brian's tearing and staticy distortions. And just in case you thought creepy, silent video wasn't enough there's a short but loud burst of a metal screeching sound.

The video then abruptly cuts to a shot of Clayton looking exhausted (from this entry, if anyone would recognize it). He's saying something but the sound has been removed and after a couple seconds the video jumps to a shot of: more snow!
The snow has "STAY AWAY" written in it. There's then a half second of static followed by a video of the funeral home's morgue...with the drawers popping open and the corpses sliding out. (This may also be familiar to some viewers. It cuts out before the light gets bad enough to break anyone's tablets, though.)
After another half second of static it returns to the previous shot, only now "FROM HIM" has been added to below "STAY AWAY." It stays on this message for a good ten seconds before cutting to a short, and heavily distorted, video of someone cutting open a stuffed monkey.

There are then a few seconds of creepy, distorted hospital hallways before the video shifts a final time. The last shot is of a wall (in building 143) with a numbers drawn on it in charcoal. It says "9513390313793583953179"

Aside from the burst of static near the beginning and some footsteps in the hospital hallways, the entire video is silent.*

((ooc: the cipher decodes to "i am watching."))

We mourn the loss of those who have died in the time between the last announcement and this one:

Gregory House
Beckett
Jay Merrick

Joker's last known location is the post office, he's likely entered the downtown area but could be headed into the ice tunnels. Everyone in the area be on high alert, arm yourselves, avoid traveling alone, I don't want to see anyone else get hurt.

Steph's right, he shouldn't be approached alone if it can be avoided, but we can't leave him wandering around. Let's get organized. I need to know who can help me bring him in, and where you are. Al says he's got spray pistols with acid, if you can find anything to protect your eyes and face, you're gonna wanna grab it.

Peggy and I are in the athletic shed, we need to resupply tomorrow morning and then we'll head south as fast as we can.

Let's try to keep all plans and location information behind a filter, OK? Intel's a weapon, let's not give him more than he has already.

[ Video ]

[ Steph is so angry she's shaking and it's obvious she's been crying, but she uses video anyway. Her personal pride is the least of her problems right now. In her hands is a notebook in which she has drawn a sketch of the Joker, done in ballpoint pen, illustrated with lime green lipstick and red acrylic paint. ]

This man, known as the Joker, is wandering Norfinbury under the name "Jack White", username "gravedigger". He is armed and incredibly dangerous, responsible for the deaths of thousands in Gotham city and elsewhere, as well as for billions of dollars in property damage and almost a decade of terrorism. He is a psycopath who tortures, maims and murders for fun.

Be aware that he is fully capable of fighting without weapons, and has improvised weaponry in the past.

Do not engage. Do not try to take him down on your own. If you see him, run. If you can't run, aim to kill. I cannot stress how serious I am about this. He will kill you. Any of you, at any time, for any reason.

[Filtered away from Joker]

[Al did his best but it wasn't good enough and now someone is dead, someone he had promised to protect. Worse, the murderer has escaped and knows who gave him away, meaning Stephanie is definitely in danger and more people could be too if they run into the Joker at random.

Now isn't the time for caution or voice only, because his voice isn't working too well. Something about having a knife pushed in his throat several times. He's still not sure how that works, why he's bleeding, where the pain has come from. It's a numb sort of disbelief, though, cushioned underneath the weight of his guilt and failure.

So there's a suit of armour on the network today, covered in blood and quite clearly a lot of it is his own, because it seems to be seeping down from under the neck of his helmet in thick waves. The area around his eyes also looks damaged, perhaps with corrosion. Al's voice is weak, but he's forcing it out with determination.]

House is dead.

[He angles the tablet slightly to show House laid off to one side, covered in Al's jacket as if that will somehow make it more palatable. He could barely see to do it thanks to the acid squirted in his eyes, everything blurry around him, but he couldn't just leave him like that.]

The man who did it calls himself Jack White, but his real name is Joker.

[Seriously? That's a stupid name.]

He's a dangerous criminal and he-- [He has to cut off with a wet sounding cough, more blood seeping through the faceplate on his armour. He feels so light-headed.] --he has to be stopped, but you need to be careful. We tried to take him into custody but...

I'm sorry.
